Incubated at MIT in 2017, Sigma Ratings was founded by two aspiring entrepreneurs who realized the need for change.
Starting with the mission to make the world more transparent by highlighting and standardizing metrics for good corporate behavior, Sigma began offering Certified Ratings which leverage public and private data on companies to create a rating. These ratings are especially beneficial in highlighting institutions, with effective compliance, in jurisdictions perceived as high-risk, exemplified here.
The Sigma team also recognized that by using AI and machine learning it could achieve its mission at global scale through the collection, organization and scoring of public data alone. To date, Sigma has organized over 1 billion data points on over 600 million companies and 1.5 million people globally to make it the world’s most comprehensive risk analysis database
Stuart is a former senior U.S. Treasury official, including extended leadership tours in Afghanistan and the Middle East. For his service, Stuart received the Secretary’s Honor Award and the Treasury Department’s Meritorious Service Award. After his government service, Stuart worked as an executive with EY, where he led business and strategic growth in select emerging markets for the forensics business. Stuart is a graduate of MIT, St. Andrews and the The American University.
Gabrielle worked as a senior M&A corporate governance attorney in New York and as an executive in one of the world’s largest development finance organizations based in Switzerland. Gabrielle is a graduate of MIT, George Washington Law School and Villanova. While at MIT, Gabrielle won the IBM AI Hackathon and was active in broadening Sloan’s efforts around governance and ethics.
